Hilary Duff & Mike Comrie Separate: Were There Signs That Their 3-Year Marriage Was in Trouble?

Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie calling it quits after three years of marriage is coming as quite a shock to a lot of people
That's probably because, up until the spouses "mutually decided to an amicable separation," as was first reported by E! News today, there weren't too many apparent signs of trouble in their relationship.
A rep for the Lizzie McGuire star, 26, said she and the former NHL player, 33, "remain best friends and will continue to be in each other's lives," and it certainly appears this is the case. The duo were snapped just four days before going public with their breakup news on an outing in the park and playing with their son Luca, who turns 2 in March.

They also spent New Year's Eve together in New York City (Hilary tweeted a snap of the couple all glammed up, tellng her followers to "HAVE FUN!!").

And just after Christmas, the proud parents took adorable little Luca on his first trip to Disneyland, Instagramming a family photo on Dec. 28 of their son's first time at the magical theme park.

In early November Hilary even shared a selfie that showed her kissing her hubby before an L.A. Kings hockey game, and who could forget their super-cute Halloween costumes (as sexy mouse and doctor—or lab rat and scientist, depending how you look at things). They also had a sweet family outing to find their future jack-o'-lantern in early October, and as you can see, there were no obvious indications of trouble in the pumpkin patch.

There were unsubstantiated rumors in September that the pair were headed for divorce, but those didn't pan out to anything at the time. Mike was all smiles at Hilary's 26th birthday party Sept. 28. And when the retired NHL player turned 33 on Sept. 23, Hilary tweeted, "happy Birthday to my wonderful husband and Luc's amazing daddy :)"

As for the two and a half years of marriage before that? From paparazzi snaps and social media clues, things appeared A-OK between Hilary and Mike. We certainly wish the best for them (and of course baby Luca) as they move forward.
